Recently purchased a Jet Scroll saw at a local store that came with a few blades. This being my first attempt at scrollsawing, I followed the instructions to a tee but the blades broke anyway. I decided to purchase these Delta blades online largely in part because there will be 3 dozen blades to "practice" on. Well, I seemed to be getting more than what I bargained for: either I improved quickly at the craft or these Delta blades are very sturdy! At first glance this insert seems well made but it becomes apparent very quickly that Leecraft never tested it on a Delta saw. There are two problems. The first is minor, the screws are not long enough. Their heads hit the top of the countersink, stopping their downward travel, before the top of the insert is flush with the top of the tablesaw. This can be fixed with 1/16" longer screws or by drilling the countersunk holes a little deeper.

The second problem takes a little more effort to correct. The back adjustment screws are in the same position as they are on the Delta insert. No problems there. The two front screws however have been moved back about 1/2" from where they are on the Delta insert. This shouldn't be a problem because the ledges below the insert are long enough. It becomes a problem though because the adjustment screw on the front left is directly over what was the lock-down hole (the fifth hole) on the Delta insert. Because the Leecraft insert uses adjustment screws that are the same diameter and thread pitch as the drilled and tapped lock-down hole below it the adjustment screw has nothing to push against to move the insert upward, and in fact, it will thread itself into the lock-down hole with no height adjustment possible. The Peachtree insert has the same adjustment hole positions as the problematic Leecraft but because they use larger diameter 1/4-20 screws the screw doesn't thread itself into the lock-down hole. Leecraft should have either left the adjustment screws where Delta placed them or used larger diameter screws. I discounted this miter for some time as a second miter in my wood shop. The photos made it look like a light weight toy. I kept looking for a heavy Craftsman replacement for the one I sold with my old contractor's saw.

My reasoning was that it was to be used only on the band saw, and disk sander so it did not have to be that substantial. When I received the Incra V27 miter, I was shocked to see the heft of the tool and the accuracy of the adjustments. I highly recommend this miter. Look beyond the photo. I think if there was something in the shot that would give a perspective; a hand or tool; it would help.

Cheap Milwaukee 6020-21 1/4-Sheet Orbital Sander

I RETURNED THIS SANDER AFTER ONE WEEK. This sander is the poorest designed electric tool I have ever seen. My son told me I should buy a DeWalt, I wish I listened to him. First off, this sander is difficult at best to get the 1/4 sheet of sandpaper loaded in the sander. The pad used on the sander is a bit larger than others so you have to play with the ¼ sheet to finally get it loaded. Just to get the 1/4 in place take minutes of fiddling with it. It takes at least 5 times longer to load a sheet of sandpaper on this Milwaukee compared to my old Makita.
To add insult to injury once you finally get the sandpaper loaded in the Milwaukee sander and start to use it, the sandpaper slips out of the grips quickly. This piece of junk simply will not hold the sandpaper tightly enough. My 20 year old Makita holds it better after all the years and wear on it. I thought I would replace my old Makita with this new Milwaukee. NOT A CHANCE!!!
Last but not least, the grip on this sander is far too large to hold comfortably. I have no idea who designed this but Milwaukee should do themselves a favor and send them to work at their competitors because whoever it is has no idea how to design tools. I RETURNED THIS PIECE OF JUNK. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

These seem like they would be really useful. However, when I checked out the first one I received, I found that all 4 trays were broken. Every tray had 1 or 2 corners that were cracked/shattered. In some cases the corner was intact, and just had cracks but others had a large hole in the corner.
So I returned that unit for a new one.
The new one arrived with the same problem.

Neither shipping box was damaged in anyway and the red "shelving"/carrying unit was completely unmarked.
This means for both units, the trays were not broken by something "crushing" the box or unit.

The things I liked about this vac are:

- 4 HP, 7.9A motor
- Simple construction - it's basically a bucket with an electric motor on top, a big hose and some accessories.
- Easy to take apart and reassemble. The hose comes off easily and so does the top.
- Nice drain, it would empty the 10-gallon bucket in less than half a minute.
- Easy to move around on 3 little caster wheels.
- Great suction power - it fills up the 10 gallons in a couple of minutes and would remove the water literally to the last drop.

One thing that could be improved is the length of the power cord. I could use more than 18 feet. And it would be nice if the cord could be detached from the vac, making it easier to move it around when the bucket needs emptying.

Wood chips are a nuisance, wood dust can be deadly. Whether you buy this unit or another quality dust collector, don't scrimp on your health. As an amateur woodworker with a small basement shop, I wanted to find the balance between an effective one-tool-at-a-time dust/chip collection system with a minimum of setup hassle, and breaking the bank and clogging my shop with industrial cyclone systems and 8" metal ductwork. I did hours of research before deciding on the Delta 50-760 dust collector over the similar JET, Grizzly, Powermatic, etc. units. Overall design, good CFM over a wide band of static pressures, and price were the deciding factors. Best purchase I ever made related to my woodworking shop. While there is much conflicting info out there on dust collection and the best way to set up a system, for a small shop, the Delta 50-760 can be the heart of a very effective dust collection system, especially with a couple of tweaks.
Here's my experience:

1. SHIPPING/SETUP: The unit came UPS in a large heavy box that had obviously been tossed around. I took pictures in case of hidden damage, but there was just one tiny dent in the blower housing. All parts were present, printed directions were sufficient, and setup was quick and easy. I did it alone, but it would have been much easier at one or two points to have had some assistance as it is fairly heavy. The motor/impeller housing design is unique to Delta-- most manufacturers separate the two and use a flexible hose with a 90 degree elbow to connect to the impeller. Delta's design is more efficient and allows for easily connecting a separator (see below).

2. NOISE: The sound of all the air moving is really the bulk of the noise, not the motor. It certainly is way less annoying than the whine of a wet/dry vac. That said, having learned my lesson as a musician, I always use ear protection, so it is a non-issue with me. I can say, that my workshop is in an unfinished basement directly below my wife's home office. She says it sounds something like a vacuum running off in the distance, but has no trouble with it.

3. ELECTRICAL HOOKUP: This is a 110v unit, but really needs its own 20amp circuit. At best, trying to run big draw units like dust collectors, table saws, etc. on the same circuit at the same time will just mean constant runs to the service panel to reset the breaker.

4. STOCK, SINGLE TOOL COLLECTION: I first tried the unit "stock" with the supplied felt filter and plastic collection bags. Both bags install fairly easily, the length of the supplied 4" hose is a bit short for realworld application, but sufficient for trials. Hooked to the port on my 10" contractor-type table saw, there was a noticeable improvement in the quantity of material collected compared to the 6hp Rigid wet/dry vac with 2- 1/2" hose I had been using. Some material will still escape from the top of the saw, but this a function of not having an over the saw port, not a problem with the Delta collector. Actually, with the DC left running, I could see dust from the top of the saw that was in the air pulled in through the various openings in the front/side of the saw! Attached to the "big gulp" hood I have on the back of my miter saw, the Delta got 99% of the chips/dust. The biggest dust maker in my shop is my router table (I don't have a jointer/planer), and connected to just the top 2- 1/2" port with an adapter, the Delta was getting most of the dust once again.


5. DUST COLLECTOR PARTNERS: No dust collector will get every chip and spec of dust, nor should it be used for every application, so:
--I always run a HEPA filter equipped air filter continuously when I'm in the shop, and set it to run for a few hours after I leave. This takes care of the finest, most unhealthy particles put into the air by tools and by just walking around. I use a Honeywell unit, but there are several good options out there.
--I still use the Rigid shop vac for general clean up and for attaching to small power tools with dust ports. Reducing to these 1- 1/4" tool ports from the large DC ports just is not effective. Dust collectors work by moving large volumns of air: something that just isn't going to happen with small diameter hose. Wet/dry vacs work by moving a much smaller volume of air but at much higher static pressures-- that's why their effectiveness is not lowered as appreciably by attaching them to the smaller ports.

6. TWEAKS FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE & SAFETY: I haven't measured with fancy equipment, but observation and use tells me the following tweaks have made for a better dust collection system:
--If you don't use it, it doesn't matter how powerful it is. I located the collector as close as possible to my main tools: table saw, miter saw, router table, downfeed sanding table. The longest hose run I have is about 8'. Each tool is enclosed/hooded to direct dust to the dust port, gated, with 4" diameter hose runs to each tool, with a "T" at the router table to run a 4" port to the enclosed router under the table, and a 2-1/2 port at the router fence above. Each gate is easily reachable from all tool stations, so turning on the DC unit and the opening the appropriate gate is a snap. I have an "open" gate and 4" hose for running to the drill press or big gulp for "situational" dust collection as needed as well. Total additional cost, about $75.
--Built a Phil Thien style separator from a 30 gallon metal trash can to keep large objects and stray metal (sparks) away from the collector's impeller. If you haven't already seen his simple modification, there's lots of samples/info on line. I bought a 5" to 4" adapter from a big box store for a few bucks, built the baffle from scrap lumber with a 4" outlet on top and used a 4" elbow epoxied into the side of can for the inlet. Fits right on the Delta's cart, slips right on the 5" port on the impeller housing, with just a couple of turns of tape to seal it. Maybe $25.
--Replaced the stock Delta cloth filter bag with a Wynn cartridge filter. Better filtration of fine particles, more efficient air flow (more dust collected),easier to clean (just give it a few whacks with your hand, and the dust falls into the collection bag). The instability of the base combined with the lean "flex" of the guide rods caused as you apply the extra pressure you have to because of the springs make the difference between drilling by hand and using this device basically undetectable. I borrowed the multimaster tool from a friend to remove the grout around floor tiles in my bathroom. The bathroom is 9x8 with 12 inch tiles, and it took 2 of these blades to complete the job, and I also had to use a manual grout removal tool to actual get all of the grout out. I can't say that the multimaster didn't help at all, but it is definitely no miracle grout removal tool. I used the multimaster to cut into the grout; then used the manual tool to scrape out the remainder of the grout. It took 6 hours to finish removing the grout, and I didn't waste any time.

Both of the blades ended up going from round to almost rectangular once I was done, and more importantly, the star shape where the blade attaches to the tool wobbled out to the point where the blade would not stay tight to the tool rendering it completely useless. I had to take the blade off and rotate it so that it attached via the remaining good points.

If you plan to use it for one tile at a time, then you might get 36 tiles or so use out of it. I my case ($.78 per tile or 2 blades @ $40+) it may have been a bit cheaper for me to just replace all of the tiles!

As a side note, my friend had already returned 2 DOA tools to Fein, and this one started making some not so encouraging sounds after only 4 hours of use. You would expect a tool that costs as much as this does to be a little more reliable.
