Hoover L2310 GUV 10 Amp 5-Gallon Garage Utility Vacuum

I've owned this vac for about 8 months now, and have to say I would not make this purchase again if I had to do it over. I'm surprised so many people love this engineering failure.

I purchased this VAC because I have a large garage and wanted the hose to reach all corners. I think I would now give that up for a larger diameter, shorter hose. There's just not a very powerful suction when using the floor attachment.

My biggest gripe? Whomever designed this vac should be fired. The filter is located in the top portion of the vac (above the hose inlet, of course), and not part of the bottom removable canister. It is impossible to remove the filter without getting full of dust and dirt, because you have to reach up inside the canister to pull the filter out, while simultaneously trying to hold the bottom canister in place to catch any debris that invariably falls onto your arm while removing the filter.

My wife uses the vac in the house a lot to clean up cat hair and litter. However, due to the poor design, the filter gets clogged with cat hair long before the bottom of the canister fills up. I just emptied it because she complained of poor suction (couldn't even suck up cat litter with the floor attachment), and there was only about 1/2 inch of debris in the bottom of the canister. The filter, however, was caked with fuzz and fur. My friends, this is not how a vac is supposed to work.

I give this vac two stars because it is probably good at picking up certain types of debris (like leaves or other larger particles), and it is decent for vacuuming out a car. However, it could have been a much better vac and much more versatile if designed properly.

Gorilla Tape 2-Inch by 35-Yard Tape Roll Review

I hate weak duct tape. I hate when you cannot secure thick cords and cables to the ceiling, catch pesky insects with makeshift adhesive traps, or even remove clothing fuzz due to an inadequate stickiness. I had suffered through at least 3 different rolls of comparable-to-scotch duct tape in my lifetime before college, and one of my first acts of independence was getting some hardcore tape that would go the distance. This is that tape. I look back at all of the things I have taped with fondness now that I have moved to Gorilla tape. Thank you, Gorilla tape!Get more detail about Gorilla Tape 2-Inch by 35-Yard Tape Roll.

DEWALT DW920K2 Heavy-Duty 7.2-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless Screwdriver Top Quality

I purchased this item after I had to throw away a Craftsman cordless screwdriver that I owed for over a year but only used a few times. Each time those batteries would be dead when I needed to use it, slowing down my work time because I had to wait for it to charge. The batteries were not removable unless you dismantled it. This DeWalt was the best investment for a cordless tool I have made in a while. It is very heavy duty and it comes with two 7.2 volt Ni-Cad batteries that can easily be swapped so the cordless screwdriver is always ready for work. Plus it comes with a one year free service warranty; a three year limited warranty, and a 90 day money back guarantee. No craftsman tool can ever top that or outlast this cordless screwdriver.Get more detail about DEWALT DW920K2 Heavy-Duty 7.2-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless Screwdriver.

Measuring, Marking, and Layout: A Builder's Guide Order Now

Without a doubt, this is the best book for ANYONE interested in any sort of building or tools. Mr. Carroll explains the history and practical use of tools in a very literate way. Reading this book is like being an apprentice to a very knowledgable carpenter and professional contractor. The many drawings and diagrams enhance his tutulage enormously. I wish I had this book 20 years ago when I started improvements on my home. Oh, the money and time I would have saved, with much better results. While I've been buying books from Amazon for years, this is my first review. I've never felt so strongly the need to recommend a book before. Buy it. Lowest Price Bosch T234X Progressor Wood Blade (5-Pack)

I use these blades in a Bosch 1590EVSK. This combination works well for a wide variety of projects, from precise cuts for small parts to rough carpentry for fence repairs, and even light demolition work in confined spaces (like under a sink). Other blades make somewhat cleaner cuts, but the T234X is in my saw 90% of the time.

Cheapest Stanley 33-725 25-Foot FatMax Tape Measure

I have been in the trades for over 30 years and I have been buying FatMax tape measures for as long as they have been on the market. "Stanley" has once again changed the design and manufacturing specs on another one of their tools... and not for the better. This has been happening in several other tool lines as they now own many. The tapes are only slightly better than a standard tape now. The steel for the tape is thinner than it used to be and the clear protective coating on the first several inches has also been changed... it is just some clear tape that peels off unlike previous versions. WAY disappointing. It got 3 stars because it is still OK but I can see these tapes not lasting very long and there is no rebuild offered. I purchased a couple of these because I use them all the time.

Stanley has definitely chosen to build with lower quality materials. We all know profit is important but it is really sad that companies think this is a good direction. Building with lower quality means profits can be increased because the materials used for production cost less and the product itself will not last as long. These tape measures are spendy as it is and when the quality declines so will my return business.Get more detail about Stanley 33-725 25-Foot FatMax Tape Measure.

Cheap Woodstock W1044 4-to-2-1/2-Inch Reducer

This is the first time I have been disappointed with ordering from Amazon. The product itself was as described but I odered a dust hood and some clamps with it and found out AFTER THE ORDER WAS PLACED that the clamps came from a different vendor and therefore the order was not eligible for free shipping and then that the dust hood (the reason for the order) would not be shipped for a month. I have no use for the reducer withhout the hood but it was shipped promptly and the hood was not. I cancelled the clamp order and the hood order but the cost of returning the reducer was more than the cost of the reducer itself. If the delay were made known at the time of the order I would not have placed it and would not be wary of any future orders.Get more detail about Woodstock W1044 4-to-2-1/2-Inch Reducer.

Buy DEWALT DWD110K 7.0 Amp 3/8-Inch VSR Pistol Grip Drill Kit with Keyless Chuck

I've had this drill for 3 years now and it gets heavy use. I've built many projects with it, including a shed. It handles home tasks like assembling furniture easily. It drills through metal - I've drilled 1-1/8" holes in vehicle panels with this drill. You can't even get a 1-1/8" step bit in this chuck size, so I got an adapter. I operated the drill for about 10-15 seconds using a lot of oil on the bit. Then I let it rest a minute or two and kept at it. It didn't burn out. I also cut plenty smaller holes in metal in the 3/8" size. It will cut through some fairly thick metal without complaining.

I am very impressed because I have abused this thing and it just keeps going. Great investment.

Purchase Milwaukee 48-11-1830 V18 18-Volt 3.0 Amp Hour Lithium-Ion Slide Style Battery

I was drilling a half inch hole in a 4x4 when the battery quit. Could not get the bit out. Took battery out, went to charger and got spare battery, no problem. Shows fully charged on charger. Put battery in, and it is totally dead. Put previous battery in charger and let it charge. Took an hour off of work, but got bit out and continued on. Drill is less than a year old. Batteries have been charged about three or four times. Called Milwaukee and they gave me the phone number for a service center. Went to service center expecting to get a replacement under guarantee. Battery had to be sent to Memphis, Tennessee because Milwaukee makes the service centers buy the replacements. What a joke. I thought I bought an American made and owned Drill. Batteries are made in Korea and assembled in China! Milwaukee is not the brand it used to be, in my opinion.Get more detail about Milwaukee 48-11-1830 V18 18-Volt 3.0 Amp Hour Lithium-Ion Slide Style Battery.

The Reconditioned nail gun worked very well when it was working. I had to take it in for repair on the second day of usage because it stopped working. I had to wait a week to get it repaired. I would recommend this nail gun to anyone who is looking for well build gun. My gun is working just fine now, the repairman said I had put to much oil in it and this caused it to hydro lock and would not let it complete its cycle.Get more detail about Factory-Reconditioned Bostitch U/RN46-1 3/4-Inch to 1-3/4-Inch Coil Roofing Nailer.

Where To Buy Makita BMR100W 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless FM/AM Job Site Radio

Great radios -- we have a household moving company and we bought one for each truck. The guys love 'em... the only design flaw is one that others have noted: you can't connect an MP3 player with an AUX cable to the rear port when you're using a battery to power the radio, which for us is all the time. No big deal, since there's a front port, but it means that we can't use one of the radio's slickest design features: an enclosed compartment at the rear to protect your expensive and fragile MP3 player on the job site. Overall, though, very, very happy with them.Get more detail about Makita BMR100W 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless FM/AM Job Site Radio.

Dremel MM600 Multi-Max Rigid Scraper

A must for removing LOTS of area of carpet pad adhesive on concrete! Just rolls right off. Love this tool. This tool is larger than the flexible scraper and able to work on bigger areas. I have only had the opportunity to use this product a couple of times since I have purchased so the best I can say is so far so good. I have had no issues this far. Milwaukee 48-89-1105 1/16-to-1/2-Inch Titanium-Coated Twist Drill Bit Assortment in Plastic Index, 20-Piece This instant

As a Handyman Contractor, I go through a lot of drill bits. This set is a good value. I agree with one reviewer that the small ones break easily. But then again, I've never seen smaller bits that did not break if you don't keep your drill straight.

I have tried more expensive bits and they do last longer but eventually wear out. For the money, these are my favorites. My only complaint about titanium coated bits is that they are difficult to sharpen on a Drill Doctor.

I also like the drill index and carrying case. As long as I am careful to put them back, they are always where they need to be. I also like the size selection. Most small sets don't come with a 1/2" bit.Get more detail about Milwaukee 48-89-1105 1/16-to-1/2-Inch Titanium-Coated Twist Drill Bit Assortment in Plastic Index, 20-Piece.

Makita MAC700 Big Bore 2.0 HP Air Compressor Best Quality

I purchased the MAC700 compressor a week ago and it arrived in perfect condition by FedEX. I have been around many compressors over the years and I have to say that this is the most quiet one I have seen or heard. This is my first time owning one and I regret having waited so long. Sure, it does not have the capacity as the larger, more obnoxiously loud ones, but for the average homeowner, this should suffice adequately. I have used my nailers and tire gauges with it and experience no problems. Yes, it does cycle more often as others have said, but the size and weight are well within portability making it a great trade-off. Good work Makita!!Get more detail about Makita MAC700 Big Bore 2.0 HP Air Compressor.

Milwaukee 49-22-8510 Right Angle Drill Attachment Kit Buy Now

This is solidly built and works well with both driver and drill bits, while attached to power drills, power screwdrivers, and impact drivers. My reason for buying it was to drill some holes in a very tight space. The choice was between this and a less expensive angle drill. I picked this because I figured it would fit in more places.

I'm glad I made that choice. Along with the Milescraft 2320 Metal Stubby Drill Bit Set I can drill holds 1/4 inch from an enclosed corner with only 3" of vertical clearance. I've also used it to tighten drawer handles and assemble Scandinavian furniture kits without scraped knuckles or profanity.

At $45 this isn't cheap. However, I figure it will last a lifetime and with the time and effort savings it's probably already paid for itself.

This is not a heavy duty device, but it is extremely useful and should easily last years the way I use it and for its price, I'll buy another when/if I wear it out. Discount Porter-Cable 13904 5-Inch Hook and Loop Pad (for Model 333 Sander)

I had a Porter Cable Random Orbit Sander with a PSA pad; this product allows me to choose which type of sanding pad I wish to use. The PSA for jobs involving long periods of sanding with the same piece of sand paper and velco for shorter jobs or ones requiring grit changes. I have found PSA sander costs less per sheet but once removed can not be reused while the velco sand paper system cost more per sheet but the sheets can be used over and over. It does it job well and is easlily installed. Cheap Felco Classic Folding Saw with Pull-Stroke Action #F-600

Great product when you need to trim off some branches 1-3 inches in diameter. It does most of the cutting on the pull-stroke, which is where most of your strength is. The precision of this tool is especially useful when you need to trim branches off live trees, and need to be careful where and how you cut.

You can cut 4-6 inch branches, too, but your arms will begin to wear out before you finish. Wish it had a motor.

Seriously, this is a great saw for your woods and garden. Just remember to use a chain saw (not this one) when you need to do high-volume cutting.Get more detail about Felco Classic Folding Saw with Pull-Stroke Action #F-600.

Buying Rockwell Jawhorse RK9109 Plywood Jaw Accessory Attachment

It took a little while to get but it arrived in perfect working order.

Paint started chipping off of it before we started using it. That was disappointing but doesn't affect it's operation at all.

It works fine. Better than I expected honestly. I bought it for my carpenter at work and now I want one for myself. It's a little pricey, but not for what you get and how usefull it is. It's a little heavy but when you support a door or a table saw, etc. you want it stable.

All in all, I'm impressed with it and would recommend it to anyone.Get more detail about Rockwell Jawhorse RK9109 Plywood Jaw Accessory Attachment.

Where To Buy Leatherman 830040 New Wave Multi-Tool with Nylon Sheath

Updated: Added notes

This is my second Leatherman Wave and I am quite pleased with it.

I am a multi-tool fan and have several dozen Leatherman, Gerber, Victorinox and Wenger tools (plus a good assortment of other less popular ones). There is a reason that the Leatherman Wave is one of the most popular tools. The workmanship (i.e., fit/finish/machining) of the Wave is excellent. Materials are of great quality. Tool choice and design shows that Leatherman has been doing this a long time, though there is room for improvement.

Though it's in a different price range, the tool it seems most comparable to is the Gerber Suspension multi-pliers. The sizes are nearly identical though the Leatherman Wave packs more tools into the same space. The Wave tools are also larger. For example, the blade is almost an inch longer on the Wave.

Like almost all the Leatherman tools that I own, the machining and fit is excellent. Initially there is considerable resistance when opening the Wave, but after a few weeks of use (or a good hour of dedicated time opening and closing each time) the metal seems to wear just enough that opening becomes easy without becoming loose.

Update: After several weeks of use it has indeed become much easier to open but still doesn't feel loose.

The materials on the Wave are excellent. Though I haven't used it with a great amount of force, the pliers are sturdy and the blade, saw, screwdriver and scissors did not deform or break when doing some basic household maintenance. Lesser tools have failed me in similar work. My original Wave had some cosmetic rusting which I removed with a rotary tool and a polishing compound. The steel on this Wave looks slightly different so we'll see in a few months how it holds up to the Florida humidity.

My biggest issue with the Wave is the pliers, most importantly, the lack of a sprint assist makes it difficult for the tasks I need. For example, quite often I find myself pulling large staples and smaller nails from the fencing and woodwork around the outside of my house. These are there for various reasons, including Christmas decorations, telephone and television cabling, etc.. Of all the tools, I use the pliers most for this. The sprint assist on the Gerber Suspension makes this task very easy, not to mention similar work with smaller items. The Wave, though probably sturdier than the Suspension, is difficult to use in these situations. Alas, though the other tools are extremely good quality, I don't use them nearly as much as the pliers. For this reason the Suspension is what I carry around the house.

Finally, pricing for the Wave is not bad. Shop around as there is as much as a $50 difference when I bought mine.

Update: This identical tool is also sold with a Monarch 300 flashlight for the same price. I purchased the combo for $1 more than the Wave alone.Get more detail about Leatherman 830040 New Wave Multi-Tool with Nylon Sheath.

Shop For Porter-Cable C2002-WK Oil-Free UMC Pancake Compressor with 13-Piece Accessory Kit

I've used portable work-site compressors of various types for over 30 years; primarily for pneumatic fasteners and framers. The Porter Cable pancake compressor is, by far, the only one that is truly, comfortably portable, without sharp corners, while at the same time having the PSI and air capacity of six gallons to keep an air-thirsty framer working. I'm amused by the occasional complaints here and at other sites of the Porter Cable not having sufficient power for framing nailers, or that the unit kicks in regularly. Regarding the first commentary, my response is that this compressor has ample capacity to keep two framing nailers busy, PROVIDED THAT the user understands the simple physics in volume air handling. The hose ID is, in actual terms, a secondary stage air tank. The 25 foot x 1/4 inch hose supplied with the compressor is a terrific, light-weight hose and suits the machine's portability. For blowing up things around the home, and filling tires or delivering air to a stapler or brad gun, it is perfect. Having said that, ANY professional carpenter knows that a framing nailer, with its large bore and stroke, gobbles a very large volume of air, which must be backed up with volume that exceeds it. Only a 3/8" hose, or greater, will do that. As to the issue of the compressor kicking in regularly, perhaps some understanding of what's involved with this cycling is needed. All compressors have a turn-on/shut-off tank pressure parameter, whereby the tank pressure never rises above its safe working pressure, nor drops below the design minimum operating pressure. A look at the specs are pretty interesting. Porter Cable's design parameter is 120 PSI minimum to 150 PSI maximum. Their minimum is greater than the maximum of most machines in its class, and the maximum is 15 PSI greater than many machines that top-out at 135 PSI! Now, look at the tank capacity... 6 gallons! Again, it's the gallons of air--the volume--that refills the tool. Of course, such a machine is not ever going to maintain continuous air flow to tools that operate by bleeding off copious volumes of air, but then, such machines are not only not portable, they cost many hundreds, into the thousands, more. Finally, I live where oil-lubed air compressors stop working on cold days. A dry compressor such as the Porter Cable is unaffected by cold, and keeps working. I wonder how many people experience problems with their compressor because they didn't break it in, and began working it out of the box. Read the manual. The compressor requires a 15 minute break-in period, with no load, with the drain valve open. That's key. If you don't do it, you'll have a scored cylinder and air by-pass at the piston, and NO POWER. Your father used to ALWAYS break in his new car engine, because he knew that otherwise he'd be buying stock in an oil company. Even though manufacturers of many motors no longer stress this, it remains a fact that piston motors and engines run longer, more smoothly, more economically, and with greater efficiency after break in. Leakage around piston rings with a new motor is almost always caused by failure to break a motor in. Did you break your compressor in? Hmmmm???

This compressor is the loudest of the ones I've owned in this class, by far, but such is the price for this power, so I would not recommend running it in your bedroom at night.

Buy this compressor, break it in, get a 3/8" hose, and nail away with confidence and gusto!Get more detail about Porter-Cable C2002-WK Oil-Free UMC Pancake Compressor with 13-Piece Accessory Kit.

Freud D0740X Diablo 7-1/4 40 Tooth ATB Finishing Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor, Diamond Knockout, and PermaShield Coating

For the price, I figured I was going to get a blade that cut OK but would bog down (not being sharp enough) or rattle (not being balanced enough). This blade does neither. It's cut speed is commiserate with any good finishing blade, and it runs so quiet and smooth that I barely know when it's biting into the wood. The final cut is as smooth as you could want, and if you cut against a fence it will have table-saw trueness. Wixey WR300 Digital Angle Gauge This instant

I bought this tool to insure cuts on my table saw are precise. The built in magnet allows me to store it under th table of my saw, making it always ready.

Before I had this tool, I would use a combination square to square up my blade with my table. This wasn't always perfect because the teeth are offset and can affect your measurement. This tool is small enough that it will magnetically attach to the blade within the teeth.

Dremel EZ406 1 1/2-Inch EZ Lock Rotary Tool Cut-Off Wheel and Mandrel Metal Cutting Starter Kit Best Quality

I ordered this part, so I could use it on my Chevy truck. I'm installing a floor shifter for my auto tranny, and needed this to cut off part of my center console so the shifter would fit. It was like a hot knife thru butter. It cuts metal, but I used it for plastic. I also cut off a bolt head that was stripped and once again, went right on thru it. Great price and great accessory for your dremel, you should get one, it's amazing...Get more detail about Dremel EZ406 1 1/2-Inch EZ Lock Rotary Tool Cut-Off Wheel and Mandrel Metal Cutting Starter Kit.

HTC HTC2000 Universal Mobile Base Get it now!

This product is well-made, and I certainly wouldn't begrudge them the plastic handles for raising and lowering the wheels: the plastic is very tough stuff, and holds uyp to considerable abuse without any problems. Assembly is very flexible, and doesn't take too long. I mounted a medium-sized drill press on a double-layer of plywood and attached it to this base. It is quite sturdy in the fully raised and fully lowered positions, but the "in-between" state is treacherous, and I can't recommend this base for something as top-heavy as a drill press, or anything particularly heavy at all. Once you release one wheel the stand is balanced precariously on three wheels that are well offset from the tool's center of mass, creating a very unstable situation. When you release the second wheel, the tool plops down with a thud that I don't appreciate being applied to an expensive piece of machinery. The levers to engage the wheels do not operate particularly smoothly, and it's difficult to finesse the landing. If you are putting heavy or expensive tools on your stand, I'd think twice before selecting this one. Look for one with a single lever, or one that works by engaging a brake on the wheels.

Pros:
* Well built
* Sturdy in fully raised and fully lowered position
* Relatively easy to assemble
* Inexpensive compared to other options

Cons:
* Unstable when raising and lowering
* Difficult to operate levers (depending on your configuration and weight of tool)
* The "landing" is a bit bumpy for my tastesGet more detail about HTC HTC2000 Universal Mobile Base.

Leatherman 830032 Blast Multitool with Leather Sheath Decide Now

My girlfriend bought me this for my birthday about four years ago, and would often joke about how no other present she ever gets me will live up to this one. That finally changed when she got me a Leatherman Juice S2, but not because it is any better than the "Blast," but rather because it is smaller and more pocket-friendly. Both models are excellent, but I live in a city, and some of the tools on the "Blast" just weren't that useful in my everyday life (the saw and file in particular) and the size of the pliers was a bit much for what I need. The "Juice" is smaller and fits in the hip pocket of my jeans, and has everything I need on a daily basis.

That being said, the "Blast" is excellent for camping (the saw is awesome), impromptu home-improvement projects (the pliers are first rate), or general small repair work. This would be excellent to keep in your glove compartment, bug-out-bag, in your desk at work, etc. The tool quality is excellent for most situations the average person will encounter. I've cut hard wires, pried nails and other various things, and cut into drywall, 2x4s, and dead tree limbs with the saw. I've never had a problem with it. All of the tools lock, not only for convenience but also safety. The only thing I dislike is the small size of the scissors, but that's a minor complaint as they cut just fine when you need them too.

As I mentioned, it's a little big to carry in your pocket, though if you were an electrician, contractor, repairman etc. and used it more frequently, the bigger size would be an advantage, and if you put it in the sheath on your belt you'll barely notice it. It's actually not heavy at all for the size and strength of the tool, I think partly because of the handle inserts which also give you a decent grip when using the piers, but don't seem to sacrifice any of the strength of the handles.

I don't have any "this tool saved my life"-type stories that Leatherman fans often love to tell, but having this tool has made my life easier countless times, usually at work or somewhere I don't have access to a full rang of tools. The funny thing about the Blast is that it gives you the feeling that you don't need that toolbox full of tools. It's a lot of fun to use and hasn't let me down. I don't own a "Wave," so I can't tell you anything about the difference in quality between a the two, but the "Blast" seems well built to me, and I don't think you could find a better multi-tool for the price. If you are going to buy one Leatherman for general repair/outdoor work, I think this is a great choice. This is the Leatherman that made me love Leathermans. I own this, a "Squirt," a "Juice," and two Leatherman pocket knives, and all are excellent quality products.Get more detail about Leatherman 830032 Blast Multitool with Leather Sheath.
